Fear Free Veterinary Care Now Available for Houston Area Pets

Can you imagine telling your dog, “Let’s go to the vet!” and seeing her tail wag? How about getting out your cat’s carrier and seeing him come running?

Houston pet owners won’t need to imagine it if they visit Central Houston Animal Hospital. That’s because we are part of a new initiative sweeping veterinary medicine designed to ease the stress, fear, and anxiety so many pets experience while at the veterinarian.

Known as Fear Free, the training and certification program helps veterinarians modify their procedures, handling, and facilities to help pets feel safe and comfortable while receiving the medical care they need. Fear Free has enlightened us with tips on how to “Take the PET out of petrified.”

Our doctors and staff from the front to the back all want your visit to be as stress free as possible. We love to hear that a pet is as excited to see us as we are them. We treat each other as family and want to extend that to your furry family members

Founded by veterinarian Dr. Marty Becker, the Fear Free training program was developed by board-certified veterinary behaviorists, veterinary technician behavior specialists, board-certified veterinary anesthetists, well-known veterinary practice management experts, and boarded veterinary practitioners experienced in Fear Free methods.

To become certified, veterinarians and veterinary staff are required to complete a comprehensive, 8-part educational course and exam. They also have to take continuing education to remain certified.

We have put treats through taste tests and have the most enticing ones to offer. We can even accommodate those with food allergies or food sensitivity. We have pheromone plug ins and sprays that only your pet can smell that mimic their mother’s milk which has a natural calming affect. Cozy blankets and Fluffy towels help us all feel warm and calm. We can do exams on the floor for anyone who is afraid of the table. We can also call you in your car when a room is available to avoid any lobby time.
