Should Your Dog Sleep With His Collar On?

CHAH Updates

How bad is it to let your dog sleep with his collar on?

It’s often overlooked, but remember to remove your dogs collar when he/ she is in the crate. It can be dangerous to leave on, as the tags or actual collar can become stuck putting your pet at risk for strangulation. All veterinarians and dog trainers would agree that the collar is not designed to be a 24/7 accessory. Another good reason to remove it at night is nonstop wear could cause fur to break off leading to irritation or infection. The risk jumps if the collar frequently gets wet or if it’s a bit too tight. A collar on any pet should fit comfortably with the thickness of two fingers for wiggle room. While collars are vital for holding ID tags, make sure your dog is also microchipped so when you remove your pup’s collar at night the dog can still be identified in case of an emergency.

In conclusion, it’s really bad to let your dog sleep with it’s collar on.
